Have you ever had a Do Nothing Cake? I have, and it was delicious! The Do Nothing Cake from scratch recipe has been lost over time, but it wasn’t until recently that I decided to search the web and see if anyone else had this recipe that I so enjoyed. Anyone know of the cake?
I get asked a lot about my Do Nothing Cake recipe. For those of you who are following the From Scratch Recipe for Making Life Easier, I know how important it is to have trusted recipes you know and love. So I decided to share here in-depth how to make this delicious cake from scratch!
Do Nothing Cake (from scratch)
I am going to show you how to make the best cake of your life, using the recipe that I followed correctly. Yes, absolutely correctly. The only changes I made were changing the pan size and switching to a 13x9 square pan
Ingredients
For the cake:
- 2 cups of sugar.
- 2 cups of flour.
- 2 eggs.
- 1 tsp of baking soda.
- 1 tsp of vanilla.
- 16 ounces of undrained crushed pineapple.
For the icing:
- ½ cup of butter.
- 1 cup of sugar.
- ¾ cup of evaporated milk.
- 1 cup of coconut.
- 1 cup of nuts.
- 1 tsp of vanilla.

Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the sugar, flour, eggs, baking soda, vanilla and pineapple until well blended using a spoon.
- In a 13×9 cake pan, pour the batter and bake for 35 to 40 minutes in a preheated oven to 350°.
- To make the icing, mix together the butter, sugar and evaporated milk and cook for 5 minutes over medium heat to thicken a little.
- Turn off the heat and add in the coconut, nuts and vanilla then ice the cake while it’s still hot.
