This traditional Southern salad takes its name from what was called the ‘food of the gods’ in Greek mythology. It is typically served chilled in a crystal or glass bowl and has long been a Southern staple, especially at holidays.
Ingredients:
- 3 medium oranges, peeled and sectioned or 2 cups mandarin oranges, drained
- 2 large bananas, peeled and sliced
- 1 large can pineapple chunks, drained
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 3/4 cup sour cream with 2 tablespoons powdered sugar added
- 3/4 cup whipped cream
- 1 cup miniature marshmallows
- 1 cup flaked coconut
Directions:
Combine oranges, pineapple and banana slices.
Combine the honey and lemon juice; pour over fruit.
Add remaining ingredients and stir gently to mix.
Refrigerate overnight.
Gently toss before serving and sprinkle with additional coconut for garnish if you like.
