Beefy Gyros Pitas


  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 Medium red onion cut into slivers about 2 cups
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 cup Great Value fat-free plain yogurt
  • 1.5 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 4 whole-wheat pita bread (pocket or no pocket) warmed
  • chopped cucumber for serving
  • chopped tomato for serving


Brown ground beef, onion, paprika, and oregano in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat for 8-10 minutes until beef is no longer pink, breaking into crumbles. Season with salt and pepper as desired.

Meanwhile, stir together yogurt, garlic, and cumin.

Divide the beef mixture among the pita bread, either placing on top of the no-pocket pitas or inside the pocket pitas. Top with cucumber and tomato and serve with yogurt sauce.
