Making these truffles is very simple. You just crumble up the cake, mix with frosting, and then dip the balls in melted chocolate. They’re definitely a crowd-pleaser. I put out 30 at work and they were gone within 10 minutes.
Ingredients:
- 1 box of your favorite cake mix (baked according to 13 x 9 directions) (will yield 45-50 truffles)
- 1 can of your favorite frosting
- 12 – 16 ounces of either dark or white chocolate – melted
Directions:
1. Once the cake is cool crumble in a large bowl.
2. Mix with frosting. Your hands work best for this.
3. Roll into one inch balls. Place balls in the freezer for 30 minutes to chill.
4. Melt chocolate in the microwave.
5. Dip the balls in melted chocolate and place them on a cookie sheet covered in waxed paper to set. If you want to decorate with coconut chips place the coconut on top as soon as you’ve dipped the truffle. If you wait it won’t stick to the top. When I’m dipping truffles I usually drop them in the melted chocolate then remove them with a fork and allow the excess chocolate to drip off.
6. If the chocolate starts to get stiff you may need to remelt it in the microwave. 30 seconds should do.
