Grilled Brats with Peppers & Onions

  • 4 bratwurst links
  • 24 oz beer (enough to cover brats in pot)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 hot dog buns

In a large pot add bratwurst sausages and enough beer to cover them.

Bring to boil and reduce to simmer, until the sausages are cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F, about 15-20 minutes. (They will turn white.)

Meanwhile melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and red pepper, season with salt and pepper. Sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.

Preheat grill to high heat.

Remove the brats from the pot and place onto the hot grill for 4-5 minutes, turning them until evenly grilled and crispy on all sides

Once grilled, move the brats into the skillet with the onion & pepper mixture until ready to serve.

Serve brat with the skillet onions and peppers on a split roll like a hot dog or hoagie bun.
