This Pickle Juice Mop Sauce might sound strange, but it is seriously good! I don’t even like pickle juice, and I LOVED this sauce! We used the sauce on pork tenderloin, but you could also use it on chicken and steak. The sauce can be made ahead of time and refrigerated until you are ready to grill. I actually have some in the fridge right now. We are planning on grilling with it again this weekend.
The Pickle Juice Mop Sauce starts with pickle juice. The sauce has a little kick from some crushed red pepper and cayenne pepper. We really liked the hint of heat. If you are concerned about the heat, you can certainly reduce or omit the peppers.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 medium onion, grated
- 1 cup dill pickle juice
- 1/4 cup cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 lemons, thinly sliced
- 2 tsp crushed red pepper
- 2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Directions:
Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in remaining ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes.
Use the sauce as a barbecue baste. Baste on pork or chicken during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Serve extra sauce warm on the side.
