Organization is a huge issue for many people. Whether you need to organize your workplace, your bedroom, your closet or your whole house, you can make organization your New Year’s Resolution this year. Here are some tips to help you get organized.
Organize Your Closet
To organize your closet, think about the different seasons of clothes. Consider putting together a box of clothes to store during the off season. If you limit your clothes to one box per season, you will have a more manageable amount of clothing. The remainder of your clothes should be donated to charity. Get rid of any clothes that do not fit properly, especially those that are too big. Saving a pair of pants that you want to fit back into may be a good motivator for losing weight.
Once all of your clothes are divided between seasons, and worked down to just those pieces that you wear regularly, you are well on your way to organization. If you have not worn something in over a year, you can consider adding that to the donation pile. If you enjoy purchasing clothes, consider donating one piece of clothing for every piece of clothing your purchase. This will help prevent your clothing from becoming overwhelming and will help you keep your closet organized.
Organize your Desk
Your desk space has a lot of clutter that you need to go through frequently. If you have a habit of throwing your mail on your desk and forgetting about it, consider purchasing a small paper bin that you put all your mail in every day. Then, you have all the mail in one place and you can easily go through it. Keep a trash can near your desk so that you can easily throw away any trash instead of allowing it to pile up and be thrown away later.
Purchase a filing cabinet and some hanging files to keep your personal papers organized. Keep one file for your insurance documents, one file for your credit card documents, one file for your loans and so on. As you go through documents and decide to keep something for future reference, create a file, and alphabetize it. If you go ahead and take the time to do this once, it will be easier to keep on top of later.
As you consider different areas of your life that need organization, keep in mind your closet and your desk space. These areas are both used daily, and will serve you better the more organized they are. Get your calendar out and schedule a day to organize each area of your life that you would like to work on this year.
