The cornea, the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye, can be transplanted – for nearly a century. In over 95 percent of all corneal transplants, patients regain their eyesight. Almost anyone can be considered as a donor because no blood flows in the cornea – so the blood groups do not have to match.
